FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITIES at East Weymouth Congregational Church, UCC
You'll find plenty of ways to get involved at East Weymouth Congregational Church, UCC. Here are just a few:
Book Club
Every four to six weeks, an informal group of book lovers gathers at East Weymouth Congregational Church to discuss what they have read or books they have heard about through reviews or friends. The books most often are either current fiction or classics. Recent titles have included "The Kite Runner" and "The Alchemist." Discussion guidelines may come from publishers' guides or from participants' questions and points. The group chooses the book they want to discuss next. For exact meeting dates and times, check our Calendar.
East Weymouth Congregational Church Senior Choir Music is an important part of our ministry, but it also provides a relaxing and exhilarating opportunity for fellowship.
Our Senior Choir sings at every Sunday service, including our more casual summer services. We rehearse from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. on Wednesdays from September to June, and our repertory includes everything from 13th century plainsong to Beethoven's "Hallelujah" from "Mount of Olives" to a gospel arrangement of "Amazing Grace" to the latest choral pieces from such 21st century composers as Mark Hayes, Gilbert Martin and Lloyd Larson.

We participate yearly in the Choir Festival/Service of Ecumenical Song at Gordon College in Wenham, collaborate with other local churches for special services, and occasionally sing for ailing church members in hospitals and nursing homes. Our Senior Choir's alter-ego, the Herring Run Festival Chorus, sings annually with the Southeastern Philharmonic Orchestra in the Barbara Knapp Memorial Concert. This event is a tribute to a longtime member of the choir and violinist with the Philharmonic, our community orchestra-in-residence.
Craft Group
Like making things? This group meets weekly throughout the year to make all kinds of handcrafted goods from jewelry to Christmas decorations for our annual Holiday Fair, which is held in November.
Senior Lunch Group
Gathering for a brown-bag lunch on the third Thursday of each month, this group shares memories, laughs, conversation, prayer --- and homemade desserts!
Next-to-New Thrift Shop
This church mission provides more than just a chance to find bargains; it's also a weekly gathering place for longtime and recent members of the church and the community. The shop is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays from September to June. Strawberry Festival and Flea Market Apple Crisp Festival and Flea Market The whole community is invited to gather for fellowship, flea market bargains and delicious desserts --- homemade strawberry shortcake in June and homemade apple crisp in September.
A Little Christmas in Jackson Square
Our annual Epiphany Sunday concert each January involves 100 voices from several area churches and some of the best young instrumental and vocal soloists in the area. This year's event raised $1,600 to benefit the Weymouth Food Pantry. It also provides a rare opporunity for different churches to celebrate our common faith.
