EAST WEYMOUTH CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH, UCC

Meet our staff

Wayne Braverman, guest preacher

Wayne Braverman works as a managing editor and internship coordinator with GateHouse Media. He also worked many years in radio, hosting a popular once-a-week radio show in the Merrimack Valley, southern New Hampshire and Central Massachusetts.

In addition, Wayne is a lay minister, speaking and leading services at many churches throughout New England. He served 10 years as a crisis counselor, counselor trainer and eventually as chairman of the Board of Directors at a Christian center based in Newton.

Along with Kathleen Benjamin, he was co-director of a week-long creative arts program every summer for 15 years at Camp Aldersgate in Rhode Island.

Wayne and Kathleen have also worked together for many years, planning retreats and programs for groups and people of all ages at camps, retreat centers and churches.

Victor DeRubeis, Director of Music

Victor has served the church since 1995 and directs our Senior Choir at all services and special children's choirs formed for Christmas, Easter, and Pentecost.

In 1999 he founded the annual Little Christmas in Jackson Square ecumenical Epiphany concerts, which have grown to include as many as six choirs from various churches throughout the area.

Growing up in the Roman Catholic tradition, he studied classical piano for 10 years, has given recitals at Malden Public Library and First United Parish of Everett and performed with the Boston University Jazz Ensemble.

He has also studied organ privately and provides accompaniment for the congregation and choir on our historic 1906 Hutchings-Votey tracker organ and our 1915 Chickering grand piano.

Kerry Mortland, Church School Superintendent

Kerry grew up in East Weymouth. She attended church school at East Weymouth Congregational Church, sang in the children's choir and was confirmed here as a youth.
She has spent over 20 years as Church School Superintendent, making Christian Education accessible to all children.
Kerry believes that in our church, " All children are welcome, always!"
